Our in-depth look

Who it's for

Dogs that travel by car, dogs that prefer a covered den, and owners crate-training a puppy.

Who should skip it

Dogs who get very hot — a wire crate is airier at home. Always check airline requirements directly before buying for air travel.

Tips

Your dog should be able to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. Add a washable mat, and make the crate a happy place with meals and treats inside.
