Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Reserve Sweet Potato & Venison Grain-Free Dry Dog Food

Limited ingredient

Best for: Dogs with food sensitivities

Natural Balance's limited-ingredient line keeps the recipe short: venison as the single animal protein and sweet potato as the main carbohydrate. It's a common choice when your vet suggests trying a protein your dog hasn't eaten before.

Our in-depth look

Who it's for

Dogs with suspected food sensitivities, especially when your vet suggests a "novel" protein the dog hasn't eaten before. With one animal protein (venison) and sweet potato as the main carbohydrate, it's easier to tell what your dog is reacting to.

Who should skip it

Dogs that are fine on everyday food don't need a limited-ingredient diet. Because it's grain-free, read our grain-free guide and check with your vet, particularly for breeds prone to heart disease.

Tips

Food trials usually run about 8 weeks with nothing else to eat — no other treats or scraps. The matching canned version makes a good topper or reward during the trial.

Questions owners ask

Which bag size should I start with?

Start with the 4 lb bag to check your dog likes it and tolerates it, then move to the 12 or 22 lb bag.

Can I give treats during a food trial?

Only treats with the same single protein, such as the matching wet food or venison treats. Anything else can spoil the result.
